Hyundai Motor India Limited is spearheading the establishment of a state-of-the-art hydrogen innovation center in Chennai, with a focus on driving advancements in hydrogen technology and sustainable mobility in Tamil Nadu. In partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and Guidance Tamil Nadu, the groundbreaking ceremony of the facility marked a significant step towards catalyzing innovation in the realm of hydrogen mobility. The center, set to cover 65,000 square feet at the IIT Madras Thaiyur campus, will house various cutting-edge facilities, including an electrolyser test rig, fabrication line, fuel cell test station, Operational & Diagnostic Digital Twin for Hydrogen Infrastructure, and pilot demonstrators using electrolyzers and fuel cells. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen technology, reduce carbon footprint, and cultivate a skilled workforce for the hydrogen economy. With a projected full operation by 2026, the center is envisioned to play a pivotal role in advancing the hydrogen ecosystem, not only within Tamil Nadu but on a national scale. The collaborative effort between HMIL, IIT Madras, and Guidance Tamil Nadu underlines a shared vision for sustainable automotive solutions, showcasing a commitment to environmental stewardship and technological innovation.
