India has announced a significant move towards increasing the production of Green Ammonia through the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The SECI has released a Request for Selection (RfS) to choose Green Ammonia Producers under the National Green Hydrogen Mission's SIGHT Programme. A competitive bidding process for a total capacity of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes per annum of Green Ammonia has been initiated, with the produced Green Ammonia intended for supply to fertilizer companies. The SIGHT Programme, implemented by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, has already earmarked Green Hydrogen production and Electrolyzer manufacturing capacities. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30, aims to enhance India's self-reliance in clean energy and drive the global transition towards clean energy. The mission is set to reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuel imports and establish India as a key player in Green Hydrogen technology.
