  • Oman's Energy Minister reveals plans for the first green hydrogen project, with a Final Investment Decision expected by 2026-2027.
  • Hyport Duqm project, supported by OQ Alternative Energy, BP, and Deme, aims for an initial production capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year.
  • Partners plan to deploy 1.4GW of renewable energy capacity and a 500MW electrolyzer in the first phase, with future expansion to 1GW.
  • The project aligns with Oman's ambition to establish itself as a key player in global green hydrogen production and supports sustainable development goals.
Oman's Energy Minister, Salim Al-Aufi, has unveiled plans for the country's first green hydrogen project, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy production. The Final Investment Decision (FID) for this project, part of a series of eight planned green hydrogen initiatives, is expected to be made between 2026 and 2027. Leading the pack is the Hyport Duqm project, in which OQ Alternative Energy, BP, and Belgium's Deme are key partners. With an initial production capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year, the project aims to leverage 1.4GW of renewable energy capacity and a 500MW electrolyzer in its initial phase, with a future roadmap to scale up to 1GW of electrolyzer capacity. This project not only signifies Oman's commitment to renewable energy but also aligns with the country's vision to become a prominent player in global green hydrogen production. By supporting sustainable development and energy transition, this initiative sets the stage for Oman to contribute significantly to the green energy sector.
