TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have joined forces to decarbonize TotalEnergies' European refineries by producing green hydrogen in Northern Europe. The partnership involves the development of two projects in the Netherlands to produce 45,000 tons of green hydrogen annually using renewable power sources, primarily generated by the OranjeWind offshore wind farm. This initiative is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 450,000 tons per year at TotalEnergies' refineries in Belgium and the Netherlands, aligning with European renewable energy targets. The collaboration includes the construction of a 250 MW electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery, aiming to cut emissions by 300,000 tons annually. In addition, a tolling agreement has been signed for the supply of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen to TotalEnergies' Antwerp platform, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 150,000 tons per year by 2027. These projects represent significant investments and demonstrate the companies' commitment to reducing carbon footprints in the energy sector. TotalEnergies is actively working towards decarbonizing its European refineries by leveraging green hydrogen, with existing contracts for over 170,000 tons annually across various European locations.
