Volgren, an Australian bus bodybuilder, has partnered with Northern Irish bus manufacturer Wrightbus to introduce the first hydrogen-powered bus in Australia. This initiative follows Volgren's previous launch of a battery-electric bus on a BYD chassis in 2019. The collaboration with Wrightbus for fuel cell bus manufacturing in Australia was established in May 2022.
The hydrogen-powered bus is the latest addition to Volgren's lineup of over 150 zero-emission buses, which include various models using battery-electric and fuel-cell technologies. Another hydrogen bus is already in production and is scheduled for delivery soon.
The collaboration with Wrightbus marks a milestone as the company supplied the hydrogen fuel cell chassis technology, showcasing its advanced powertrain technology in Australia for the first time. Volgren's CEO, Thiago Deiro, expressed pride in leading the way towards zero-emission transport solutions and emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in creating sustainable public transport systems.
