Ballard Power Systems has secured substantial orders for its fuel cell engines from two bus manufacturers targeting the European and UK city bus market. These orders consist of over 90 fuel cell engines, totaling approximately 6.4 megawatts of power capacity. Chief Commercial Officer David Mucciacciaro emphasized these orders as validation of fuel cells as a zero-emission alternative to diesel engines and confirmed Ballard engines' ability to meet demanding city bus performance requirements. The total power capacity of 6.4 MW showcases a significant milestone for Ballard in the hydrogen mobility sector. Each bus powered by these fuel cells could help displace around 60-80 metric tons of CO2 annually compared to diesel alternatives. The order, equipping approximately 45-50 double-decker buses or 90-95 standard buses, validates the increasing adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in European public transport. With a growing market for zero-emission buses in Europe, this order solidifies Ballard's role as a key supplier in this expanding segment.
