The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) is gearing up for its fifth event in the 'Run on Less' series, focusing on decarbonizing the long-haul segment of trucking. Known as the 'Messy Middle,' this event aims to address the significant heavy-duty emissions stemming from long-haul trucking, despite it constituting only 9% of the industry. The event, set for September 2025, will feature 10 fleets of Class 8 trucks utilizing various decarbonization solutions, such as battery electric, hydrogen fuel cells, renewable natural gas, and more. NACFE's Executive Director, Mike Roeth, emphasized the importance of showcasing the realities of the long-haul trucking market to assist fleet managers in making informed decisions about powertrain options. The organization plans to share results and updates through various channels during the Run and publish a comprehensive report in 2026. By focusing on reducing emissions and improving efficiency, NACFE aims to provide clarity on the future of decarbonization in the long-haul trucking industry.
