GAIL (India) Ltd and Accelera by Cummins have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy and energy transition technologies in India. The partnership, formalized during India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi, will focus on exploring opportunities in green energy solutions, particularly hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage. GAIL, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, aims to advance its net-zero target to 2035, accelerating India’s energy transition efforts. Accelera, the zero-emissions arm of Cummins Inc., brings expertise in new energy solutions, complementing GAIL's well-established natural gas infrastructure. Cummins Inc. offers advanced energy technologies, including hydrogen production and fuel cells, which align with GAIL's clean energy projects. Notably, GAIL commissioned a 10 MW Green Hydrogen unit at its Vijaipur plant, with the electrolyzer supplied by Accelera, showcasing their commitment to green hydrogen initiatives. Additionally, GAIL has conducted successful pilot studies blending hydrogen with CNG and PNG networks and plans to scale up these efforts. The company has also established a five TPD Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Ranchi and intends to develop more CBG plants across India in the coming years. Through partnerships with Leafiniti Bioenergy and Coal India, GAIL is working on expanding its biogas and synthetic natural gas production facilities. Moreover, the collaboration extends to ethanol production, with a joint venture set up to build a grain-based ethanol plant in Rajasthan. The partnership between GAIL and Accelera underscores their commitment to driving sustainable growth in India's energy sector by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and strategic collaborations to support the country's energy transition goals.
