GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Accelera by Cummins to collaborate on hydrogen and energy transition technologies in India. The focus of the agreement, signed at India Energy Week 2025, is to explore opportunities in hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage. GAIL's proactive approach towards clean energy is highlighted by the commissioning of a 10 MW green hydrogen plant in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, using technology from Cummins. The company has also successfully tested a 5% hydrogen blend in pipeline natural gas through its joint venture Avantika. Furthermore, GAIL has revised its net-zero targets to 2035, emphasizing its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to a cleaner energy mix. Cummins Inc., known for its expertise in clean energy solutions, will contribute its knowledge in powertrains and hydrogen production technologies to the partnership. The collaboration aims to promote the adoption of hydrogen in various sectors such as transportation, power, and steel, including exploring its use as a standalone fuel and in combination with LNG, CNG, and natural gas. Apart from hydrogen initiatives, GAIL is diversifying into renewable energy with projects like compressed biogas plants and ethanol production facilities. The company's partnerships for developing CBG plants and synthetic natural gas production showcase its broader clean energy expansion strategy.
