Hydrogen is emerging as a crucial element in Thailand's journey towards clean energy sustainability and carbon neutrality. Recognized for its environmental safety, hydrogen is being explored for various applications beyond just fuel. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is actively researching green and blue hydrogen production methods, such as the use of renewable resources like wind and solar energy. Projects like the Wind Hydrogen Hybrid System and coal-based hydrogen production in collaboration with Chiang Mai University aim to reduce carbon emissions and transition towards cleaner energy sources. Additionally, EGAT plans to mix hydrogen with natural gas to decrease fossil fuel usage in power plants, contributing to Thailand's energy transition goals. While challenges like production costs and infrastructure development exist, hydrogen is positioned to play a vital role in enhancing energy infrastructure and supporting Thailand's sustainable future and global carbon neutrality objectives by 2050.
