Innovations in Hydrogen Technology at Hy-fcell 2024: Fraunhofer ILT Showcase
Key Ideas
  • Fraunhofer ILT is demonstrating how laser technology can increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve sustainability in fuel cell production at Hy-fcell 2024 in Stuttgart.
  • The institute's laser-assisted drying technology significantly speeds up fuel cell production by reducing drying time from minutes to seconds, saving energy and space in the process.
  • By developing processes like corrosion protection coatings and double-beam welding, Fraunhofer ILT is enhancing the efficiency and scalability of fuel cell manufacturing, meeting the increasing demands for hydrogen technology.
  • Innovative approaches such as high-speed cutting and repair of forming tools are further contributing to optimizing fuel cell production processes and reducing production costs.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is set to showcase advanced laser technologies at the international trade fair and conference Hy-fcell 2024 in Stuttgart on October 8 and 9, 2024. Their focus is on demonstrating how these technologies are paving the way for the breakthrough of hydrogen technology. The institute will present innovations at stand 4E51 in hall 4, aiming to address the challenges of high costs and complex manufacturing processes in fuel cell and electrolyzer production. One of their key developments is laser-based drying technology for electrode layers, significantly reducing drying time and energy consumption while improving production speed. Additionally, their work on corrosion protection coatings for bipolar plates and double-beam welding techniques is aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs in fuel cell production. Fraunhofer ILT's efforts also extend to tool steel wear protection and repair, enabling longer service life of manufacturing tools. These advancements not only enhance the efficiency and sustainability of fuel cell production but also cater to the growing market demand for hydrogen technology.
