OSM's Hydrogen-Powered Three-Wheelers Set to Revolutionize Urban Mobility in India
Key Ideas
  • Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) plans to mass-produce hydrogen-powered three-wheelers in India starting December 2024, with a range exceeding 700 kilometers on a single refill.
  • The collaboration with Systemics led to a world record at the Le Mans event in France, showcasing the viability and efficiency of hydrogen as an energy source.
  • The innovative fuel cell technology allows for rapid refueling in five minutes and aims to reduce operational costs to approximately INR 3.5 per kilometer.
  • OSM's initiative not only redefines hydrogen fuel technology possibilities but also positions India as a global leader in the clean energy transition with a goal to scale production to 10,000 vehicles by 2026.
Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) is set to introduce hydrogen-powered three-wheelers in India, beginning mass production in December 2024. The collaboration with Lyon-based start-up Systemics under Hydrogen Intelligence achieved a world record by covering 900 kilometers over 24 hours on just 2 kg of hydrogen at the Le Mans event in France. OSM's Founder, Uday Narang, emphasized the commitment to a cleaner future with these vehicles designed for Indian roads. The advanced fuel cell technology allows for quick refueling in five minutes and offers a range of over 700 kilometers per refill, reducing operational costs. The first phase will target southern Indian states, with a manufacturing facility near Chennai expected to be operational by March 2025. The economic feasibility, with an estimated price of INR 6.5 lakhs, promises long-term savings compared to traditional EV batteries. Antoine Abou, Systemics' Founder, highlighted the synergy between hydrogen and battery technologies in redefining mobility standards. OSM aims to scale production to 10,000 vehicles by 2026, positioning India as a global leader in the clean energy transition. The initiative not only signifies technological prowess but also blends sustainability, efficiency, and innovation to revolutionize urban mobility in India.
