Solaris has embarked on delivering a total of 26 hydrogen-powered Urbino 12 buses to REVG Kerpen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The first two units have already been handed over, with the remaining fleet set to be delivered by 2025. Each of these buses will feature a 70kW hydrogen fuel cell from Ballard Power Systems, generating electrical energy to power central electric motors. Solaris currently leads as the largest hydrogen bus manufacturer in Europe, claiming a significant market share of 44.5% in 2023. The deployment of hydrogen buses has been successful in various German cities like Cologne, Frankfurt, and the Munich Metropolitan area, with upcoming contracts for locations such as Krefeld, Hamburg, and Duisburg. The move by REVG Kerpen highlights their dedication to sustainable transportation solutions, emphasizing a mutual journey towards a greener future alongside Solaris. Furthermore, a strategic initiative by RWE and Westfalen Group involves establishing a hydrogen refuelling station at the Emsland gas-fired power plant to cater to customers in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia starting in 2025. This station aims to provide up to 500kg of hydrogen daily for tanks, passenger, and utility vehicles, sourcing its green hydrogen from RWE's 14MW electrolyser in Lingen. The combined efforts underline a positive outlook towards hydrogen adoption, innovation, and environmental stewardship in the transportation sector.
