Tata Motors has launched India’s first trial runs of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The initiative aims to evaluate the commercial feasibility of hydrogen-based trucks and develop the necessary infrastructure. The two-year trial will involve testing 16 trucks with different configurations along key freight corridors in India. These trucks, utilizing Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H2-ICE) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (H2-FCEV) technologies, offer operational ranges of 300 to 500 km and feature the advanced Prima cabin with driver-assist safety features. Government officials have lauded the initiative, recognizing hydrogen as a key element in India’s transition to sustainable mobility. Tata Motors, known for its commitment to green mobility, has successfully deployed hydrogen FCEV buses and is now expanding into the trucking sector. The company's Executive Director emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building a greener and more sustainable transportation ecosystem in India. The trials are expected to pave the way for cleaner and more efficient transportation solutions in the country, aligning with broader goals of reducing emissions and promoting sustainable development.
