Vertiv and Ballard Power Systems have forged a strategic technology partnership to develop hydrogen fuel cell backup power solutions tailored for data centers and critical infrastructure. The collaboration aims to address the surging power demand driven by increasing data usage globally and the imperative need to manage electricity consumption efficiently to meet net-zero targets. Demonstrating a proof of concept at Vertiv's facility in Ohio, the integration of Ballard fuel cell power modules with Vertiv's Liebert EXL S1 UPS showcased the successful operation of a zero-emission backup power system within an uninterruptible power architecture. The Vertiv Power Module H2, a scalable system integrating two Ballard PowerGen 200kW fuel cell cabinets with essential infrastructure, offers rapid deployment, scalability ranging from 200kW to multiple megawatts, zero greenhouse gas emissions, low noise, rapid power response, low maintenance, extended backup duration, optimized footprint, and aligns with Vertiv's sustainability strategy. This solution caters to the rising demand for eco-friendly power alternatives in data centers driven by AI and high-performance computing applications. The partnership between Vertiv and Ballard not only provides customers with sustainable power solutions but also supports the transition towards a future-ready Bring Your Own Power model.
