The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) is hosting in-person scoping meetings for the Appalachian Hydrogen Hub Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The meetings will take place on February 5 at Washington and Jefferson College, Pennsylvania; February 11 at Walsh University, Ohio; and February 13 at West Virginia State University. The purpose of these meetings is to engage with the public regarding the proposed Appalachian Hydrogen Hub project. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share their comments and concerns. Representatives from DOE and their NEPA contractor will be present to provide information and receive feedback. The public is encouraged to participate in these open-house style meetings, where they can join at any time during the 3-hour session. Comments provided by the attendees should be relevant to the NEPA process or potential environmental impacts of the project. The comments received during the scoping period, which started on December 18, 2024, and will end on March 3, 2025, will be taken into consideration while drafting the EIS. While comments will be accepted throughout the EIS process, timely submissions are encouraged for full consideration. The Appalachian Hydrogen Hub project aims to promote clean energy and sustainability in the region. The public meetings seek to ensure transparency, community engagement, and the incorporation of public input in the decision-making process. By providing a platform for discussions and feedback, the DOE intends to address concerns and gather diverse perspectives to shape the EIS effectively.
