INOX Air Products, India's largest manufacturer of industrial, electronic, and medical gases, has inaugurated its first green hydrogen manufacturing plant at Asahi India Glass Limited's greenfield float glass facility in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The plant, powered entirely by solar energy, is set to produce up to 190 tons of green hydrogen annually through the electrolysis process. This partnership includes a 20-year off-take agreement between AIS and INOX for the supply of green hydrogen to the facility. The utilization of green hydrogen in the float glass manufacturing process is a pioneering move in India, promoting sustainable practices in the glass industry. Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, highlighted that the green hydrogen supply would lead to a substantial reduction of CO2 emissions by 1250 tonnes per annum at the AIS facility. He emphasized the crucial role green hydrogen plays in India's transition towards decarbonization. Rupinder Shelly, COO-Architectural Glass at Asahi India Glass Ltd, expressed the company's strengthened commitment to sustainability with the commissioning of the green hydrogen plant. AIS aims to meet 94% of its power needs through green energy sources at the Soniyana facility, aligning with sustainability, circularity, and decarbonization objectives. Asahi India Glass Ltd has initiated a greenfield project in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, focusing on the production of high-quality float glass for automotive and architectural applications, with technological support from AGC Europe. This project further solidifies the partnership between AIS and INOX Air Products for the establishment of the green hydrogen plant, emphasizing a joint commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly manufacturing practices.
