McDermott has secured an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement from Abraxas Power Corporation for the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) project in Central Newfoundland, Canada. This project marks Canada's first commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facility. It will feature a substantial 530-turbine wind farm with a 3.5 GW electricity generation capacity and a 150 MW solar photovoltaic system. The facility aims to produce 165kta of hydrogen and 5000 metric tons per day of ammonia. Rob Shaul, McDermott's Senior Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions, expressed confidence in McDermott's capabilities and highlighted the company's expertise in the energy transition field. McDermott will lead the project from its Houston office, supported by its Gurgaon office in India. The scope of the agreement includes providing front-end engineering design, engineering, procurement, and construction execution planning services. McDermott will also offer an open book EPC cost estimate for the hydrogen production, ammonia processing, and product storage aspects of the project. The company aims to deliver a modular implementation solution to Abraxas, focusing on cost savings, risk reduction, and quality assurance.
