The Uruguayan Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining unveiled a comprehensive roadmap aiming to establish a sustainable green hydrogen sector by 2040. Beginning with plans to install 18GW of renewable energy and 9GW of electrolysers, the roadmap emphasizes the promotion of synthetic fuels and green fertilizers to stimulate a $2.1bn annual revenue stream. The strategic phases span from boosting domestic markets to large-scale export projects, envisioning cost efficiencies and capacity growth. Intermediate goals include electrolyser capacity milestones by 2030 and 2035, aligning with the forecasted 3GW green hydrogen demand for 2040. Former Minister Omar Paganini highlighted the roadmap's collaborative nature, driving concrete actions through the H2U program. Uruguay's support for green hydrogen initiatives, exemplified by the $10m backing of Saceem's production plant, underscores a commitment to sustainable economic development and energy transition.
