Avina Clean Hydrogen has unveiled plans for an $820 million investment in a state-of-the-art sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Southwest Illinois. The facility, leveraging KBR's alcohol-to-jet technology, aims to produce up to 120 million gallons of ASTM-certified SAF per year, offering a substantial reduction in carbon emissions. Founder & CEO Vishal Shah expressed excitement about the project, highlighting its commitment to clean fuel solutions, job creation, and advancing Illinois' clean energy economy. The strategic location of the facility will utilize existing rail and pipeline infrastructure to efficiently deliver SAF to major airports in the Midwest, benefiting the aviation sector and boosting the regional economy. Governor JB Pritzker praised the project's importance, emphasizing its role in supporting Illinois' clean energy goals and job creation. The facility is expected to prevent 25 million tons of carbon emissions over its lifespan and create numerous employment opportunities.
