Dovetail, an electric aviation firm, recently unveiled a hydrogen-electric powertrain in Seville, Spain, targeting the European market. The demonstration showcased the powertrain designed for a Beechcraft King Air, marking a significant milestone for sustainable air transport. Dovetail's powertrain is stated to have the capability to power popular aircraft models in the under 20 passenger category, such as the Cessna Caravan, Twin Otter, and Pilatus PC-12. The company aims to enable regional routes for smaller aircraft, potentially connecting Mediterranean archipelagos and opening new routes like Faro to Jerez. The project, partially funded by Spain's ICEX, highlights a growing global interest in sustainable aviation technologies. Dovetail's CEO expressed excitement over the progress made and emphasized the vision to lead sustainable air transport in Europe and Oceania. The Andalusian Ministry of Economy also praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of supporting innovative and sustainable projects like Dovetail's in the region. Additionally, Dovetail's recent expansion in Australia with a new facility in Victoria demonstrates its commitment to retrofit regional aircraft with zero-emissions technology, further enhancing the sustainability of the aerospace industry.
