PM Modi Launches Green Hydrogen Hub Project in Andhra Pradesh
Key Ideas
  • The green hydrogen hub project, the first under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, is a joint initiative between NGEL and NREDCAP in Andhra Pradesh.
  • It includes the development of 20 GW of renewable energy projects, 1,500 tpd of green hydrogen, and 7,500 tpd of green hydrogen derivatives, making it one of India's largest integrated production facilities.
  • The project is expected to attract an investment of around INR 185,000 crore, create significant job opportunities, and contribute to India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.
  • NGEL has also initiated partnerships with other state governments, including a similar MoU with the Government of Rajasthan for the development of renewable energy projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for a green hydrogen hub project in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in India's renewable energy sector. The project is a collaboration between NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corp. of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP). It is the first green hydrogen hub established under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. This initiative aims to identify regions capable of supporting large-scale production and utilization of hydrogen, leading to the development of Green Hydrogen Hubs. The project includes the development of 20 GW of renewable energy projects, 1,500 tpd of green hydrogen, and 7,500 tpd of green hydrogen derivatives such as green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel. The investment in this project is estimated to be around INR 185,000 crore, providing significant employment opportunities and contributing to India's goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. NGEL has also entered into partnerships with other state governments, such as Rajasthan, to further the development of renewable energy projects. This project signifies a major step towards sustainable development and green energy initiatives in India.
