Tata Motors is embarking on an ambitious project in partnership with IOCL to introduce hydrogen internal combustion engine trucks on Indian roads. This initiative, scheduled for the March quarter, is a crucial step towards promoting green energy and fostering innovation in the transportation sector. The pilot project, part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, will involve operating these trucks on three strategic routes for 18 months to collect valuable data for future product enhancements and infrastructure development. During the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Tata Motors unveiled a hydrogen-powered truck, signaling its commitment to sustainable technology. The Executive Director, Girish Wagh, expressed the company's readiness to embrace hydrogen propulsion technologies alongside fuel cell electric vehicles. As Tata Motors gears up to deploy these hydrogen internal combustion engine trucks on routes like Mumbai-Pune and Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar, the focus lies on leveraging this trial phase to optimize the performance and refueling infrastructure for hydrogen vehicles. Wagh highlighted the ongoing efforts in the value chain, including the successful operation of electric fuel cell buses, and emphasized the importance of governmental support for a successful commercial launch of hydrogen fuel vehicles in the near future. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, safety, and technological advancements, Tata Motors aims to redefine the commercial vehicle market by offering eco-friendly and efficient solutions. Despite the challenges faced in the current fiscal year, the company remains optimistic about the prospects in the upcoming quarters, fueled by the shift towards green mobility and the government's supportive initiatives towards electrification and sustainability.
