The Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has launched the Green Bus Program, introducing state-of-the-art Green Buses powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy. These buses will operate on Route 65 connecting Marina Mall and Shams Boutik on Al Reem Island, with the objective of transitioning Abu Dhabi Island into a green public transport zone by 2030. The program aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 100,000 metric tonnes annually as the public bus fleet shifts from diesel to renewable energy sources. This shift underscores Abu Dhabi's dedication to the Paris Agreement and its aspiration of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Moreover, the initiative goes beyond just showcasing the capabilities of green buses; it encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of hydrogen and electric technologies for public transport, with the intention of providing sustainable transport options to residents, visitors, and commuters in Abu Dhabi. The assessment period for the Green Bus Program will continue until June 2025, following its commencement in November 2023. During this time, bus operators, drivers, and certified technicians will undergo training sessions conducted by Abu Dhabi Mobility's partners to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of the green fleet. This program signifies a significant milestone in sustainable transportation in Abu Dhabi and sets a promising precedent for the future of eco-friendly public transport in the region.
