The Government of Canada has announced an investment of $15 million to support the manufacturing of New Flyer electric and hydrogen fuel-cell transit buses in Canada. This investment aims to enable Canadian public transit authorities to purchase more Canadian-made zero-emission buses to address fleet renewal needs. The funding will be utilized by NFI Group to expand its operations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and fully manufacture the transit buses in Canada. The project includes repurposing existing space at the Winnipeg production facility and leasing a new finishing facility for final vehicle commissioning, with construction activities starting immediately. NFI Group will co-invest in the project alongside the Province and PrairiesCan to support facility upgrades, zero-emission bus testing, workforce training, and operational costs. The project is expected to increase New Flyer's production capacity by up to 240 equivalent units per year by 2027. This initiative is part of the Canadian government's efforts to build a green economy, strengthen the manufacturing sector, and accelerate the transition to net-zero emissions. The investment demonstrates confidence in Canada's manufacturing sector and commitment to building a sustainable economy for the future, in line with the country's path to net-zero emissions.
