Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed plans to enhance the city's public transport network by adding 636 new buses. The Dhs1.1 billion contract awarded for these buses is aimed at supporting Dubai Urban Plan 2040 targets and advancing HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision for a sustainable public transport system. The new buses, which consist of city service buses, double-decker buses, and electric buses, will be delivered between 2024 and 2025. RTA's Director-General, Mattar Al Tayer, expressed the goal of providing top-notch services to public transport users while accommodating the growing number of bus riders. Furthermore, the introduction of these buses aligns with RTA's plan to transition all public transport vehicles to zero-emission models by 2050. This move includes a target for 100% of public transport buses to be electric and hydrogen-powered, contributing to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly transport system in Dubai.
