Foton Mobility Distribution is set to establish a new electric bus manufacturing facility in Nowra, New South Wales, pending council approval. The 6,000-square-metre facility is part of the company's contract with the NSW Government to produce 126 battery electric buses for Greater Sydney under the Zero Emission Buses (ZEB) program. Additionally, the facility will manufacture battery electric trucks and hydrogen fuel cell engines, creating approximately 100 skilled manufacturing jobs for local workers. The ZEB program, initiated by the NSW Government, aims to transition public transport to more sustainable energy sources. It involves converting existing bus depots in Greater Sydney to battery-electric technology and procuring 1,200 electric buses by 2028. Transport for NSW is implementing the program in stages, collaborating with industry partners to enhance local production capabilities.
