NHPC Ltd, India's largest hydropower company, has announced a significant investment of Rs. 5,500 crore in setting up a 1,000 MW solar power project in Bihar. During the Bihar Business Connect 2024 investor summit, an MoU was signed with the state government to initiate this project, which is expected to be completed within 1.5 to 2 years, subject to successful land acquisition. NHPC's Chairman, Raj Kumar Chaudhary, stressed the importance of securing land for solar projects for timely execution. Additionally, NHPC plans to establish a green hydrogen project to power passenger buses in Bihar, in line with the government's push for clean energy sources. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy and is considered the cleanest form of energy, emitting only water vapor. NHPC will fund the green hydrogen-powered buses for public transport. This initiative is part of NHPC's broader plan to promote green hydrogen, with similar projects underway in Gujarat and other states. The company aims to start with one green hydrogen-powered bus and increase the fleet as more solar power is generated, showcasing their commitment to sustainable fuel sources and clean energy projects.
