The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is advancing the Maryland Parkway Bus Rapid Transit Project in Las Vegas. This initiative, valued at $250 million, targets Maryland Parkway, a vital transit corridor serving numerous passengers daily, including the Las Vegas Strip. The proposed 12.5-mile route, from South Strip Transit Terminal to the Las Vegas Medical District, will feature shared bus-bike lanes, wider sidewalks, enhanced lighting, improved crosswalks, and increased shade to combat the area's extreme heat, as identified by RTC's heat mapping study. RTC's CEO, M. J. Maynard, highlighted the project's objectives of promoting safety, comfort, and accessibility while fostering economic growth and community cohesion on Maryland Parkway. Notably, the integration of hydrogen fuel cell electric buses is set to offer a faster and environmentally friendly transportation alternative. Construction is scheduled to start in fall 2022, with completion slated for fall 2026. The RTC has launched a dedicated website, MarylandParkway.com, to provide the public with construction updates, traffic alerts, and project progress tracking in real-time, indicating a positive step towards transforming transit infrastructure and urban connectivity in Las Vegas.
