The Special Select Committee on Environment, Science, and Plantations (JKPK ASSP) in Malaysia commended Sarawak for its advancements in green energy, particularly in hydrogen technology. During a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, JKPK ASSP highlighted Sarawak's leadership in hydrogen technology and its efforts to reduce reliance on carbon-emitting energy sources. The committee visited key organizations in Sarawak, such as the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Sarawak Energy Bhd, to observe pilot projects like hydrogen-powered buses and cars. JKPK ASSP praised Sarawak's strategic investment in hydrogen technology and emphasized its importance in addressing future energy demands. They also mentioned Sarawak's progress in green energy, achieving a significant portion of energy production from hydrogen and hydroelectricity, setting an example for other states to follow. The committee also discussed important parliamentary statements on rare earth elements and national issues concerning the Lynas plant. The visit aimed to exchange views on environmental and scientific advancements, showcasing Sarawak's pioneering efforts in the green energy sector.
