Tata Motors has launched the first-ever hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck trials in India, aiming to contribute to the nation's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The initiative, inaugurated in New Delhi by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Pralhad Joshi, focuses on evaluating the feasibility of hydrogen-powered vehicles for long-haul cargo transportation. The trials, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, will span 24 months and involve 16 advanced hydrogen-powered trucks with different technologies and payload capacities. These vehicles will be tested on major freight corridors to assess their real-world commercial performance. The ministers emphasized the importance of hydrogen in India's energy transition and commended Tata Motors for leading the way in sustainable mobility. Tata Motors' executive director, Girish Wagh, reiterated the company's commitment to clean energy solutions and highlighted the advanced features of the hydrogen-powered trucks, including a 300-500 km operational range. These trials represent a significant advancement in decarbonizing India's freight transportation sector and promoting green energy solutions. Tata Motors' leadership in alternative-fuel commercial vehicles further solidifies its position as a frontrunner in clean mobility innovations.
