The Railway Board in India announced that passengers traveling on Vande Bharat trains can now purchase food onboard even if they did not select any food options at the time of booking. This decision aims to provide more options, choice of services, and adequate catering facilities to passengers. The sale and service of food items on Vande Bharat trains have been resumed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). This change allows non-opted passengers to avail themselves of cooked meals or customised Ready to Eat (RTE) meal options during their journey. Additionally, Indian Railways is venturing into innovative transportation solutions by developing the country's first hydrogen train. The project involves equipping a diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) rake with a hydrogen fuel cell, aiming to create one of the world's longest and most powered hydrogen trains. This initiative highlights a commitment to sustainability and technological advancement in the rail sector. Moreover, the successful completion of trials for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Set signifies progress towards introducing high-speed sleeper trains in India. The 16-car train set completed long distance trials and awaits certification from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety before commercial operation. The prototype's efficient performance has paved the way for the production of nine more Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Sets, scheduled for 2025, which are expected to set new standards in efficiency and comfort for long-haul travelers.
