India is on the brink of launching its pioneering hydrogen-powered train by March 2025, a significant leap in sustainable transportation. Developed by the Integral Coach Factory, this train boasts an impressive 1,200 horsepower, making it the most powerful hydrogen train globally, surpassing existing models from countries like Germany and China. The train comprises 8 passenger coaches and 2 hydrogen cylinder dedicated coaches, with a capacity of over 2,500 passengers and a maximum speed of 110 km/h. Indian Railways' grand initiative includes developing 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains, aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. The initial trials are set to take place on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, with an ambitious vision for zero emissions and heightened travel efficiency. Operating on hydrogen fuel cells that emit only water vapor, this train represents a crucial step towards reducing harmful emissions and combating climate change.
