Indian Railways is making impressive strides in the development of the country’s first hydrogen-powered train set, aiming to revolutionize green transportation technology. The project, initially scheduled for completion by the end of the financial year 2024-25, has faced some delays but has already reached 70% progress. India has managed to create a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered train engine with an unprecedented capacity of 1,200 horsepower, surpassing the capacities of trains in other countries. This fully indigenous train, consisting of 10 coaches and boasting 2400 kW power, is set to be the longest and most powerful hydrogen train globally. The upcoming trial run on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana will mark a significant milestone in India's efforts towards zero-carbon emissions in the transportation sector. The Ministry of Railways' substantial allocation of Rs 2800 crore for developing 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains underscores the government's commitment to promoting sustainable and innovative solutions in public transportation.
