Indian Railways is making strides in sustainable transportation with the launch of the nation's first hydrogen train project, a pioneering move in the country. The Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirmed the development of this ambitious project, which involves equipping a diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) rake with hydrogen fuel cells. The project adheres to the standards set by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), showcasing India's indigenous capabilities in advancing railway technology. In addition to retrofitting the train, comprehensive infrastructure, including a hydrogen production-storage-dispensation facility, will be established to support the operation of the hydrogen-powered train.
