Siemens Mobility has received authorization to introduce its Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains in Bavaria and Berlin-Brandenburg, marking a significant step in Germany's transition to sustainable transport. The initiative aligns with Bavaria's goal of phasing out diesel trains by 2040. The hydrogen-powered trains will operate on selected routes, utilizing locally produced hydrogen to emit only water vapor and implementing braking energy recovery for enhanced efficiency. Expected to save 1.1 million liters of diesel and reduce CO2 emissions by 3,000t annually, these trains offer a greener alternative to traditional diesel locomotives. Siemens' rolling stock CEO, Andre Rodenbeck, expressed pride in the completion of the innovative Mireo Plus H trains, highlighting their eco-friendly nature and role in driving out diesel trains from service. With a range of 1,200km, a 1.7MW H2 traction system, and a top speed of 160km/h, these trains combine sustainability with high performance. Furthermore, Siemens has introduced Desiro HC and Mireo trains in the Danube-Isar network, receiving positive feedback for their design and amenities. The trains offer ample seating with accessibility features, luggage storage, and modern technology enhancements. The expansion also includes the introduction of Mireo trains on the Regensburg-Danube Valley network and an agreement with Green Mobility Partners for Vectron locomotives. The collaboration between Siemens Mobility and various operators signifies a positive shift towards sustainable transportation in Germany, showcasing the industry's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and embracing eco-friendly solutions for the future.
