The Railway Board announced that passengers on the brand new Vande Bharat trains will now have the option to purchase meals onboard, even if they did not select any food choices during ticket booking. This decision comes in response to instances where passengers may need to buy food during the journey, even if they initially opted out. The Indian Railways is also making strides in developing the country's first hydrogen train, which is set to be among the longest and most powered hydrogen trains globally. The Railway Minister shared that the project involves fitting hydrogen fuel cells on a diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) rake, a step towards eco-friendly transportation. Additionally, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has successfully completed long-distance trials, marking a significant milestone towards its commercial operation. The train, designed to provide a high-speed and comfortable travel experience, is now awaiting certification from the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) and the Railway Safety Commissioner. The successful prototype has paved the way for the production of nine more Vande Bharat Sleeper train sets scheduled between April and December 2025, aiming to set new standards in efficiency and convenience for long-haul travelers.
