Compagnie Maritime Monegasque Zero Emission (CMMZE) has announced its ambitious plans for large-scale green hydrogen production in North Africa and Europe. The project targets the annual production of 180,000 tonnes of clean hydrogen to be exported primarily to the European market. Utilizing solar and wind energy, the company aims to establish major production facilities in the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Tunisia. These facilities will rely on electrolysis technology powered by renewable sources to convert water into hydrogen without carbon emissions. Aldo Labia, the founder of CMMZE, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable energy solutions in North Africa and Europe. The initiative will include the development of renewable energy sites in Tunisia and the installment of substantial electrolyzer capacity at key locations. The project's estimated electricity consumption of 1.2 million megawatt-hours (MWh) underscores its scale and potential impact on the renewable energy sector. By focusing on job creation, economic growth, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, CMMZE aims to contribute significantly to the decarbonization efforts in the regions involved. The project's timeline indicates that construction will commence in early 2025, with the first phase of hydrogen production expected by late 2027. Long-term offtake agreements with European partners are being discussed to ensure a stable market for the produced hydrogen.
