Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson is on a visit to Namibia and will head to South Africa to strengthen the European Union's energy partnerships with these African nations. The EU-Namibia strategic partnership, endorsed by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Namibian President Hage Geingob, focuses on sustainable raw materials value chains and renewable hydrogen, backed by €1 billion in investments. In Namibia, Commissioner Simson will attend the Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek, participate in panel discussions, and oversee the signing of EU-funded programs supporting clean energy transition and hydrogen sector development. She will also visit energy projects and engage with Namibian stakeholders. In South Africa, Commissioner Simson will meet with government officials to discuss the green hydrogen agenda, support for the electricity transmission grid, and collaboration on critical raw materials and value chains, including electric vehicles. The visit highlights the EU's commitment to enhancing energy ties and promoting sustainable energy sources in Africa.
