Morocco's Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, highlighted the country's significant progress in the energy sector since the launch of the energy strategy by King Mohammed VI in 2009. The sector has matured to a level comparable to other countries globally. The transformation of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) as per High Royal Directives aims to expand its role to cover segments like natural gas, green hydrogen, transportation, distribution, production, and storage. This shift is expected to attract a substantial increase in investments, particularly in electricity, gas, and hydrogen networks, driving overall sector growth and development. The reforms also emphasize the necessity of a strong and independent regulator to facilitate transparent investment entry. Morocco's position as a crucial energy corridor between Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic basin is set to be enhanced through these reforms, emphasizing the importance of additional investments in green energy to support this role.
