NHPC Ltd, a state-run hydro power company, is in talks with the Bhutan government to establish a joint venture company for hydro power projects in Bhutan, aligning with its international expansion plans. The company is also considering ventures in African countries due to the substantial potential for hydro projects in the region, in response to calls from the Ministry of External Affairs. NHPC is actively involved in Nepal with three hydro projects in progress, preparing for construction pending approval of Detailed Project Reports. Additionally, NHPC is diversifying into renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and green hydrogen, with pilot projects initiated in Leh, Kargil, and Chamba. By 2032, the company aims to increase its cumulative installed capacity to 23 GW and further expand to over 50 GW by 2047. NHPC's Chairman stated ambitious goals for upcoming projects, including the 800 MW Parbati-II HE Project and the Subansiri Lower HE Project units, expecting significant electricity generation from these ventures.
