Taqa Arabia and Voltalia Collaborate on Largest Hybrid Renewable Energy Project in the Middle East and Africa
Key Ideas
  • Taqa Arabia partners with Voltalia to expand Zafarana Wind Farm and introduce solar energy in Suez.
  • The project will have a total capacity of 3.2 gigawatts, making it the largest of its kind in the region.
  • Additionally, a green hydrogen project with a capacity of 1 gigawatt will be developed to produce green hydrogen and ammonia.
  • The renewable energy projects aim to contribute to sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in the region.
Taqa Arabia has announced a collaboration with the French company Voltalia to revamp the first hybrid renewable energy project in the Middle East and Africa. The project, located in Suez, involves the expansion of the Zafarana Wind Farm to include a capacity of 2.1 gigawatts from solar energy and 1.1 gigawatts from wind energy. In a significant step towards sustainability, Taqa Arabia also revealed plans for a green hydrogen project with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. This project aims to produce 130,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 710,000 tons of green ammonia annually. The combined capacity of 3.2 gigawatts makes this initiative the largest hybrid renewable energy project in the region. By focusing on renewable energy sources like wind and solar, as well as venturing into green hydrogen production, Taqa Arabia and Voltalia are taking concrete steps towards a greener future, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
