At the recent Central Luzon Transport & Trade Conference 2024, DHL Summit Solutions, Inc.'s general manager for operations, Christian Go, shared the company's ambitious plan to electrify at least 60% of its fleet in the Philippines by 2030. This initiative is part of DHL's broader sustainability targets for 2030, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the use of sustainable fuels, and offering green alternatives for all core products and services. DHL Express Philippines is already making significant progress, with plans to introduce 25 electric vehicles in 2024, contributing to a quarter of the delivery fleet in the country. While electric vehicles are a key focus, DHL is also considering hybrid vehicles and hydrogen vehicles, emphasizing the importance of sustainable energy sources for EVs. In addition to investing in green vehicles, DHL is implementing various sustainability measures such as driver training, the use of sustainable aviation fuel, and GoGreen initiatives in its warehouses. The company is also exploring innovative equipment designs like aerodynamic trailers to reduce fuel consumption. Despite the challenges ahead, including the gradual adoption of EV technology and the complexity of achieving zero emissions by 2050, DHL remains committed to its goal. Christian Go highlighted the critical role of sustainability in combating climate change, emphasizing the need for urgent action and collaboration across the industry. The upcoming DHL Supply Chain Sta. Rosa Logistics Center in Laguna will further showcase DHL's green initiatives, featuring solar panels, LED lights, rainwater harvesting, and EV charging stations.
