In Tokyo, Japan's top oil refiner Eneos Holdings and trading house Mitsubishi Corp have announced their plans to expand their alliance to include hydrogen and decarbonised fuels. This expansion will complement their existing focus on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The move is part of a broader initiative by Japanese energy companies to create global supply chains for low-carbon fuels, playing a role in the energy transition to combat climate change. Initially collaborating on a feasibility study for SAF commercialization in 2022, Eneos and Mitsubishi will now delve into developing hydrogen supply chains utilizing methylcyclohexane (MCH) and establishing carbon dioxide (CO2)-free hydrogen supply and demand internationally. They will also work on integrating hydrogen in the mobility sector, utilizing Eneos' hydrogen stations and Mitsubishi's expertise in global fuel supply chains. Furthermore, the partnership aims to promote synthetic fuels derived from CO2-free hydrogen. This collaborative effort highlights a positive step towards sustainable energy solutions and aligns with the global shift towards cleaner fuels and technologies.
