Group Surya has achieved a significant milestone by securing an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for a Solar-Hydrogen Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) based Microgrid with a capacity of 200 kW in Chushul, Ladakh. The project, initiated by NTPC REL in collaboration with the Indian Army, aims to leverage Green Hydrogen for a reliable power supply in off-grid defense locations facing extreme weather conditions. The inauguration of the project, attended virtually by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other key officials, symbolizes a crucial advancement in India's defense sector, emphasizing the deployment of innovative energy solutions for uninterrupted power access. With a total value of INR 102 crore, the advanced solar-hydrogen microgrid is designed to operate continuously even in harsh environments with temperatures as low as -30°C and at high altitudes of 4,400 meters. By reducing dependence on conventional power sources like diesel generators, the system is expected to cut down carbon emissions by 1,500 tons annually, aligning with sustainability and decarbonization goals. Furthermore, the project enhances energy security by utilizing Ladakh's abundant solar resources to minimize reliance on fossil fuels, thereby contributing to a cleaner and self-sustaining energy ecosystem.
