Hyundai Motor Group and Indonesia's Pertamina Holdings have joined forces to venture into hydrogen production in Indonesia by making use of waste, in a move that highlights the commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The partnership, announced during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit 2025 in Jakarta, entails Hyundai constructing hydrogen reformers and chargers in West Java by 2027. This initiative represents Hyundai's first overseas waste-to-hydrogen production endeavor and aims to leverage organic waste like food and sewage sludge to generate clean hydrogen. The utilization of the Sarimukti landfill in West Java for waste conversion showcases a step towards addressing Indonesia's waste problem, with plans to prevent environmental damage through strategic partnerships. The Indonesian government's enthusiastic support towards this project underscores its potential to establish Indonesia as a significant hydrogen project hub.
