Team ReNew from Kumaraguru Institutions in Coimbatore, India, has been chosen to represent the country in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific 2025 under the Hydrogen Fuel Cell category. The team's innovative three-wheeled vehicle, Thimi 2.0, will compete against entries from around the world at the Lusail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar, from February 8 to 12, 2025. Led by Dr. M. Ezhilarasi, Principal of Kumaraguru College of Technology, the team shared their excitement with the media. The competition, known for promoting energy-efficient vehicle design, will see more than 150 teams from 20 countries participating in categories like Battery Electric, Hydrogen Fuel Cell, and Internal Combustion Engine. Thimi 2.0, weighing only 53 kg due to its innovative use of materials like upcycled PVC foam and carbon fibres, was created in just 5 months at KCT Garage, the research and development facility of Kumaraguru Institutions. This achievement showcases the team's dedication to sustainability and innovation in engineering. The event is a platform for students like Prathish, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student and driver for Team ReNew, to test their skills and compete at an international level, highlighting the talent and ingenuity present in Indian educational institutions.
