ACWA Power has entered into an agreement with Germany's SEFE Energy to provide 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year from Saudi Arabia to Europe, commencing in 2030. SEFE Energy, with a significant customer portfolio, will serve as a co-investor and primary off-taker of the deal, likely distributing the hydrogen across Germany and into Europe through upcoming pipeline projects. ACWA Power will play a key role as the lead developer, investor, and operator of green hydrogen and ammonia production assets. While the exact source of the 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen has not been disclosed, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project, a major development in collaboration with NEOM and Air Products, is a central component of the portfolio. Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power, highlighted that the partnership supports Saudi Arabia's ambition to be a prominent hydrogen producer globally. SEFE's CEO, Dr. Egbert Laege, emphasized the dual aim of ensuring Europe's energy supply and driving the energy transition through green hydrogen. Gascade, a subsidiary of SEFE, is planning to repurpose a pipeline network in Germany spanning 4,100km for hydrogen transportation. The collaboration between ACWA Power and SEFE Energy signifies a positive step towards advancing green hydrogen production and aiding in decarbonization efforts. The joint efforts align with the vision of promoting sustainable energy solutions and enhancing Europe's energy security while contributing to global hydrogen trade.
