ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia and Snam S.p.A. from Italy have come together in a significant move to drive the green hydrogen sector forward. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two companies aims to establish a reliable and cost-effective supply chain of green hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Europe. Snam, known for its expertise in natural gas operations, plans to build a pan-European multi-molecule infrastructure to enhance energy security and support the transition to Net Zero. The collaboration will focus on exploring potential investments and partnerships to ensure a steady supply of green hydrogen to Europe via the SoutH2 Corridor, spanning Italy, Austria, and Germany. Both CEOs, Marco Arcelli of ACWA Power and Stefano Venier of Snam, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership and highlighted the crucial role of hydrogen in reducing emissions and advancing decarbonization efforts. They emphasized the need for collective action to accelerate the adoption of low carbon technologies. As part of the agreement, the development of an ammonia import terminal in Italy is set to streamline the delivery of green hydrogen to central Europe, aligning with the ambitious decarbonization targets of the European Union. The joint efforts of ACWA Power and Snam signal a promising step towards a sustainable and greener energy future in Europe.
