The European Commission has launched initiatives to advance green hydrogen and electric vehicle (EV) battery technologies as part of its efforts to promote net-zero technologies and meet climate goals. With a budget of €3.4bn, new calls for proposals aim to accelerate the deployment of innovative decarbonisation technologies, including electric vehicle batteries. Additionally, a second auction of the European Hydrogen Bank with a budget of €1.2bn, supported by EU funds and contributions from member states, seeks to expedite renewable hydrogen production in the European Economic Area. The Innovation Fund, fueled by revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System, is enabling investments in cutting-edge low-carbon technologies to support Europe's transition to climate neutrality. Furthermore, a partnership between the Commission and the European Investment Bank is providing a €200m top-up to the InvestEU program, focusing on investments in the EU's battery manufacturing sector. Member states can now complement the Innovation Fund's initiatives with national funding schemes, enhancing support for projects aligned with climate goals. The Commission's actions underscore its commitment to bolstering Europe's leadership in innovative, net-zero technologies and fostering a sustainable future.
